Postcard back: Now may be a good time to introduce myself. After all, it’s not every day that I have a fresh logo, a new website, and nostrils so neatly coiffed. – AB

Too often, postcards used for marketing find a fast path to File 9. If Andy Bosselman’s first card came right out and said, “Hey, check out my new website,” it would have been no different. But the freelance writer and consultant recently teamed up with me to tackle the trashcan. We applied a powerful but underutilized tool of advertising: the concept.

The process behind a good concept & execution:

• Team brainstorming (concept development) sessions: 3
• Concepts generated but not used: 8
• Lighting and setup: 3 hours
• Photo shoot: 3 hours
• Frames shot: 72
• Photo editing, digital post-production and pre-press: 4 hours

Meeting business objectives:

• 465 pieces mailed
• Traffic to http://www.andybosselman.com up 350%
• Two meetings with potential new clients
• Several calls & positive comments from existing clients
